My state now has commercials now featuring addicts and the commercials are basically, “Hey, we are people too.”

It’s a sad but true reality that society casts these people aside. Unfortunately, the church is chief among this. And I would say the same is true for all mental illness, not just addiction.

I agree. Christians are so quick to condemn people. Addicts have an illness and it should be treated as an illness, not a crime. We throw too many addicts in jail, rather than offer them help for the condition they are suffering from. I have worked in correctional facilities for most of my professional career. 8 of my 15 years in nursing spent treating inmates. I left the medical field last year and went to work for the Florida Department of Corrections. I worked 6 months in one of DOCs state institutions in Avon Park and I currently work in community corrections where I help felons as they attempt to blend back into society. So yes, I can tell you that you are 100% correct. I know that Christ shows these people mercy and a chance to live free again. We should offer the same love.

Wow Love sures got style!! Love will sit up all night by the side of a bed in an uncomfortable chair

Squeezing a hand, just to let someone know "LOVE is THERE!"

LOVE will go in early, stay late, not complain or even think to hesitate

To take and do the worst jobs and meanwhile.... never once berate

The ones in charge, oppressors, masters, over-bearing bastards

LOVE is always the first to show up in the aftermath of disasters

LOVE will choose a parking space far away from the door

And leave the close-up spaces for another at the store

LOVE looks over the fence and sees a dog without a bone

And makes it part of the daily routine to treat it as it's own

LOVE doesn't waste it's hours moaning complaining and bitching

Love knows how to lend a hand and scratch just what is Itching!

LOVE will go the extra mile, give a smile and bless a child

LOVE will pour a glass of tea and ask a friend to "sit a while"

LOVE will kiss a "boo-boo" and make it better! That's LOVE'S STYLE!

This is so beautifully said and so true. I have never had any addictions except coffee n cigarettes and it is hard sometimes to understand. 🙏🏻❤️

I was always worried, having been sexually abused for several years, that I would become an addict. It runs in my family, also. I experienced TBI as a child, as well. I have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and now strongly suspect ADHD. I have experienced eating disorders and self harm, but did not become an addict of drugs or alcohol. I got lucky in that regard. Bless your husband, Mary Katherine. We can always learn from others.♥️✨️

My family is filled with generations of addiction. I have seen the pain and suffering and death. A fee have fought and succeeded in getting clean. It is so horrible. All of us are affected even if we don't use. Thank you for your wisdom and love. I usually dismiss all religion , but love listening to you. You speak from your heart and I appreciate it.

Thank you for this! I lost a brother to addiction and I have a daughter that struggles with it.

I doubt there are any families that don't suffer from this . I'm so sorry for your loss and I hope your daughter heals.
