If only more people responded like you. People are too quick to place blame these days. Thank you for sharing, I'm sure it's just what someone needed to hear. I hope they are listening.
Honestly, I think we should normalize C's in elementary school. Grade inflation is real and we should praise actually working hard for an A. When kids get to high school/college and they get their first C ever, it can be shattering and they don't have the skills to cope.
On behalf of teachers everywhere (in my case, retired), thank you! If only all parents approached their child’s education as a partnership between home and school.
I so agree! It's amazing the differences between our kids at home and school. Teachers have an insight into our kid we as parents don't get to see just like we get a version of our kids that they don't get to see. Some of it is good and some of it is not so good. All I can day is after COVID and doing school virtually I couldn't begin to do what they do everyday. It takes a very special human.
I had a conversation with my son's teacher about not turning in assignments. I told her that he should be getting a zero for not completing the assignment. She was shocked and surprised that I wasn't upset or arguing with her about his grade. I wanted her to hold him accountable for his grade. This is what they are there for, to learn. I can't believe some of the arguments I've heard from teachers about parents.
Parents, we must do better to support our teachers and hold our children accountable to doing the work assigned and being decent human beings.
Teacher here. I have two things to say: one, thanks for your support and your willingness to follow through at home. It makes a world of difference for your kid! But also, I would push (kindly) to have your child’s teacher do a little more assessment and dig into her underlying number sense and basic skills. Grades 2/3 are the proverbial shit hits the fan academically. She may be struggling to pay attention in this one subject not from lack of interest, but because it’s super hard to pay attention to things that just don’t make that much sense to you. Don’t blame the teacher, but also don’t let it slide. It’s so much easier to address the quicker you catch it.
My husband is a teacher and I assure you those paychecks are insufficient! Thank you for supporting teachers 🙏
Yes ma’am! My husband too!

I am a teacher. I was a little scared reading the first part. “God, not another of THOSE parents!”
Thank you. Thank you Thank you, Mary Catherine.

Great attitude. Being a teacher is hard. I was one once upon a time. Thank you for listening and seeing that she cares about your kid.

Thank you, MK. You are one fantastic Momma!
