This morning I was doing what I probably shouldn’t—catching up on the news, taking my daily dose of political poison while at least I had toast in my stomach—when I came across a local article outlining Donald Trump’s latest proposal.
And how about the fact that, due to the huge shift in income equality that has happened over the past 40 years of the GOP insisting that cutting taxes on the rich will "trickle-down" to everyone and make this country a better place, Americans can't afford to own their own homes let alone cover the very high costs of raising a child in this country?!?!? And what about the fact that NO ONE can guarantee that they will give birth to a CIS/hetero child and that LGBTQ+ children are going to have a very difficult life, given the horrible policies and attitudes that are being supported lately?!?!?
Number one, you had better not be a brown or black woman and asking for this - because you're the "wrong kind" of procreator. Number two, no doubt that 5 grand is getting taxed, so it won't be the windfall you think it is, and number three -you nailed it - with inflation, and the exorbitant cost of EVERYTHING, it won't go very far, assuming you survive childbirth. This will NOT make America great. Thank you for writing. Signed, a mother, labor nurse and nursing educator.
You are so right on with every word. Were I a young woman in America these days, I would be petrified were I to get pregnant. This country isn’t safe for women of any age any more. The entire scenario is horrifyingly dystopian and for everyone working to raise your children now, I wish you all the very best. It does take a community; a loving community that cares about each other. Now more than ever before support each other. Women are good at this so build your strengths together. Use them for each other and for your children. The world doesn’t have to be this crazy but your kids need you all to be strong enough to make it all better. No amount of money will do that but what’s inside of you will be. Together, everything is possible.
Didn’t read the whole thing (don’t think I have to) but it sounds like yet another Trump Derangement hit piece. *Yawn*, and you’re supposedly Christian?! Smh.
Add in the gutting of child labor laws, destruction of education norms and availability and you’ve got one poverty induced work force who have no access to education, healthcare, money or resources to get out of the horror they’re plunged into. Add in child bride marriage and you’ve got the perfect breeding cattle. Both of my grandmothers came out of this system. One pulled from school at the start of sixth grade so she could work on the farm and feed the farm hands. Two of her sisters raped and impregnated with their rapists having hopes of getting an ‘in’ with the family farm. The other, never had schooling. Couldn’t read or write, signed her name with an X. Married an abuser, he died, married another abuser. Spent her life in the same tiny town making pies to scrap by. Died in her early 60s because she never had access to healthcare. But, here we go. 21st century and we’re going to live like it’s 1885.
I posted this comment on the FB version of this... gonna post it here, too... might come back to it and write a horror script based on this...
Look, the solution is super simple: forget educating girls. Save BILLIONS right there. They don't need to read; they need to breed.
They can go pick those blueberries, or whatever, until they start to bleed. Keep 'em on farms to do chores. It's what they're good for... small fingers, fast work; easily trainable bio-bots.
Once they start menstruating, they can go to the baby farms... we can even automate this... they can remain in comas... fed intravenously... could probably remove some limbs to reduce nutritional requirements and give fast access for insemination... probably by machine... or heck, call it a glory-hole automat...
This well subsidize many parents already intent on having large families. I see it roughly analogous to diverting public education funding toward private vouchers. Many if the applicants across different states already homeschool or have their kids in private schools.
It makes me sick. I hope someone will get him out of the WH and send him on a vacation to El Salvador. He's taking a page from Musk, who wants the world to populate with his children, only to be an absentee father, with no marriage in site, only children, that have only a mother to raise the child and a child growing up knowing that what he/she was brought in the world for. Not for love, compassion and a family life. I would say it would be for a population contest. SICK, SICK, SICK
Perhaps it’s just once again my lucky day to have landed on another “it’s all Trump fault” days?!
He was handed decisions and non decisions from past 250 years! My question is who in your mind would be the perfect Democrat for the office?! Cause none of the ones I see, have perfect past life decisions, with perfect political ideals??! So I only ask because he seems to be living in your head!
It's an absurdly stupid thing to say that the United States president is living in my head. I'm his constituent, and everything he does affect me. Of course he does.
Obviously, you agree with my simple statement! So I suppose that makes us both absurdly stupid!
I have been a fan longer than most of your current followers and actually your labeling my comment as absurdly stupid …and here, I was thinking you had grown past that! Better he be living in your head than others in the recent past!
Donna, you didn’t get me, you just proved my point.
When I critique policies that actively harm families, undermine constitutional rights, or turn the poorest Americans into political pawns, that’s not “obsession.” That’s accountability. The idea that a sitting U.S. president is somehow above criticism because I dare to mention him in an article about policy failure? That’s not clever—it’s lazy.
And let’s be clear: criticizing a man who proposes baby bonuses while gutting social support systems, or who deports fathers without due process, isn’t political theater—it’s called civic responsibility.
You say you’ve been a long-time fan. Then I hope you know I don’t perform outrage—I speak from it. I’ve lived inside the consequences of these decisions. I’ve watched them touch my children’s futures. So no, he’s not “living in my head.” He’s sitting in the highest office of power, and that means he’s living in all of our lives.
Donna … the only reason we are speaking about Comrade Krasnov, is because he keeps making things worse instead of better. BTW, ANY DEMOCRAT would have been better than this clown show of money grabbing, bankrupting idiots.
I'm not understanding anything in this world anymore. It's all ridiculous to me. But the beauty is I only need to understand one thing an that is if you let Jesus Christ into your heart an let him save your soul you don't ever have to fear anything here on this earth. Because I'm a winner either way, an if you are saved by the marvelous grace of God you don't have to fear anything either! I love The Lord! Also I don't believe that money for babies is smart an I believe that it will only harm women an the children they have, we have enough grandparents, aunts an uncles, brothers and sisters caring for their family's babies as it is we DO NOT need anymore, nor do we need anymore in the foster care system, they are already overwhelmed as it is!! Trump an anyone thinking this is going to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN is an IDIOT!! Thanks MK

Agree ! Let’s add visits to the pediatrician and additional costs if tonsils need to be removed, eartubes inserted, dental care, just as a start.
The Idiots are offering us money to shut us up.

Could combine it with a casino.
Every child in the picture is white.

Yes!

Brilliantly stated. I agree wholeheartedly. Thinking that throwing a bit of cash at people will solve the problem is so absurd.

Thank you for your spot on article! I wouldn’t even engage with the nonsensical ones… 🤷🏾♀️

Grow up.
Actually I was mostly playing devils advocate with you! Oh and since I just turned 77, growing up doesn’t seem like a likely option!🤔

A “baby bonus” is nothing new, it has been considered by both sides of the political line… including by Harris last year. https://prospect.org/economy/2024-08-22-why-harris-baby-bonus-might-work/
