One of the most well-written and salient posts regarding the election. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and reflecting Jesus in a way that’s a truer reflection than is often presented.
I knew you would be voting for Harris because you are a very caring intelligent good human! I am proud of who you are and have you have handled all the hard stuff! You rock!!!!
Thank you!! To read your writing is a breath of fresh air. I am so horrified by this Christian nationalism sweeping our country, putting trump on a pedestal. He is the epitome of the worst in us. He has brought hate to our nation not seen before in my lifetime. (I’m 54). The fear mongering about democrats is horrendous and his followers eat up every word of it, which is beyond dangerous. Well, I don’t have to say any of this, you and your readers are aware, but I feel so scared. Thank you a thousand times for being a good human being and using your voice for good. ❤️
Thank you MK for speaking truth to power… & for being brave. I hope your followers who might be on the fence will heed your wisdom as you explained why … 💙Blue ticket regardless of what political affiliations you have had in the past … Democracy is up for grabs. Let’s not lose our freedoms!
My respect and admiration for you runs deep, MK. The people disagreeing with you on this, the ones who will cancel their subscription or unfollow you on Facebook, they were never your people to begin with. Thank you for using your vast reach to unapologetically say what needs to be said. ✌️ & ❤️
BRAVA for your commitment to Kamala Harris! I, too, am voting for Kamala Harris as the mother of three daughters and two granddaughters. I want them to have the rights that I had. Plus I don’t want my daughters who are still in their child-bearing years to not have options that will guarantee to protect their health and ultimately their lives. In addition Project 2025 plans to do away with birth control. I birthed four children but birth control still allowed me the option for my husband and I to plan when the pregnancies would occur. Furthermore, medication and emergency medical care was extremely important to have available through two miscarriages. Pregnancy planning and safe care through pregnancy loss are, of course, not the only reasons I’m voting for Kamala Harris. I’m so grateful she’s running for President of the United States of America and I will proudly congratulate her as Madame President when the results of the official election results are announced.
Whether or not you said anything publicly or not, I knew from your previous writing how you would probably be voting. I’m proud of you though for writing this. It’s another step in your daily process of healing. My late husband was a longtime member of AA. One of his favorite sayings that he heard there was, “Those who mind, don’t matter and those who matter, don’t mind”. This gets easier to take in personally as you get older and your skin gets a tad thicker. You’re a good woman, Mary Katherine Backstrom. You’ve no need to doubt yourself. You’re on a good path now.
Thank you for putting your words out here, as they mirror my thoughts. My vote was cast early for Harris & Walz. This entire election, one phrase you said has been running through my mind and out of my mouth - “when someone shows you who they are, believe them.” It is incomprehensible to me that anyone with a modicum of morality can vote for the former president. He has shown us time and again who he is - and he isn’t for the nation, only himself. If your words have swayed the mind of even on person who is undecided, it was worth putting your thoughts into print. Thank you for sharing your convictions.
I couldn’t stand Trump before he ran for political office. He showed me who he was long before - and it hasn’t changed. My Facebook friends who loath “doing politics” on their timeline are all speaking out. This is much more than politics. It’s a choice, in my case, on how my grandchildren will live. I’m Independent. I vote according to balance and who/what challenges it. There is zero doubt where the enemy lays. No doubt at all.
I too am a Christ-follower, also voting for Kamala Harris. For the life of me, I cannot understand Evangelicals voting for someone that’s as far from being a Christian as you can be.

As a Catholic I can’t support Trump or this iteration of the GOP at all at any level of the government. Thanks for standing up for what’s right. 💙💙💙

Beautifully and powerfully said! Thank you.
You are a bright light in a foggy world. Though we haven’t met, I’m so proud of you!!
Yes, yes, yes - 1,000 percent yes, MK! Please stay strong and keep doing the right things - we have your back!

So well written and so true.
