Thank you so much for sharing your heart and confirming my own beliefs. I can't imagine how you felt when you found out Ruth had died, because I didn't even know her and I beoke down and cried.

I know you've gotten a lot of flack from people because you're so outspoken, but you are one of my favorite people and I love that you know God as the loving caring God that he is. Also, you make me laugh with some of your videos, and that's a good thing on days when there's not enough laughter in the world.

Keep doing what you're doing! Hugs to you!

I'm not a crier, but lately, whew! I nearly lost my tough shell on this one. Dear dear Ruth.

My Aunt Ruth is a lifelong Christian and a righteous homophobe. We had coffee twice this week, and both times I gently corrected her language/ beliefs about " the sins of Sodom". I started with her racism a decade ago and don't have to listen to that anymore! I'm fighting the good fight and loving her while not allowing her to use God against ANY of my siblings. My bros and sisses of all kinds will be safe!!

Thank you for being on this planet and sharing with those of us who believe everything must change!

Brilliantly written. I’m sorry for the loss of your dear friend. How do we turn this story into a healing for God? How do we help bring the truth of God’s love to the people who misunderstand? How can love bring justice to those whose lives are torn apart by dissension? This is ever the conundrum. I stand firm with dear Ruth, her daughter, and you.

That Ezekiel passage does not say that those were their only sins. You are making a false inference. Plus, you skipped over another relevant passage:

Jude 6–7 (ESV): And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— 7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

Ma’am, I was just introduced to your stack yesterday, and your writing is extraordinary. Although I do not share your background (quiet quit Catholicism and religion while still in HS, bailed entirely when I moved out of the childhood home, spent a fair amount of time since incensed that religion as a concept was invented), you illustrate it beautifully (damned onion ninjas…).

To Ruth’s story, this is why I get furious. Sounds like she was devoted to her church, they pissed on her, and somehow her daughter has to listen to some (probable grifter and child abuser) dripdick rail about, well, likely her, as Ruth is laid to rest. That daughter needs every {{{hug}}}. Damn it.

And {{{hugs}}} to you, ma’am.

Thank you for sharing, that was a touching story. It is really sad that some people's narrow visions of God creates pain for others.

Imagine Ruth’s radiant face when she was welcomed into Paradise. Imagine the shocked expression on her former pastor’s face when his cruelty stops his entrance into the same gates.

I am so sorry about your friend Ruth passing!! I was reading your post about Ruth. Ruth working at the church should Not have been an issue no matter what the church felt about her daughter. They are 2 individuals. The church should be living as examples of God’s love. Have they ever heard of letting God be the Judge. Who died and left them in charge?? God is still alive. You can’t draw people in with hate and judgement. Praying for Ruth’s daughter and family and you our friend!!

(((Hugs))) 🙏🏼 ♥️♥️♥️🙏🏼

I appreciate your honesty and your heart. I certainly agree the church has come off with perhaps so much pride and too little concern. You and I would find ourselves on different sides theologically of this issue, but I can listen and continue to learn from people like yourself as to what Grace needs to look like. I believe we would find ourselves still with different convictions and views which are deeply at odds at the core. But I read with humility and seek to embrace a repentant heart for the way I have misrepresented Jesus. We have some deep disagreements, but for some reason, I like to read your articles. Sometimes I find myself mad at you, because I feel you are totally misrepresenting people like me, but other times I believe the insight you share is real and profound, and needs to be heard.

I do believe God loves all, but I also believe sexuality is sacred and given for a purpose. I do not think many like to talk about the sacredness of sexuality. It is beyond a gift to be used as a toy for human pleasure, but it is a gift to bring pleasure into the sacred nature of becoming one with another in God’s eyes. And out of that union, we even have the incredible blessing of becoming creators our selves by giving life to others –, part of the beauty of being in the image of God. Also, if we don’t fully understand and embrace the brokenness of our sin and separation from God, we can never fully embrace his healing, love and grace. All of us need this deeply . I need to love above all, but the reason I drink so deeply of his beautiful Grace is because I do understand the depth of my own need. Apart from Christ I’m truly nothing. In the end, I simply desire to help people truly discover and drink the grace of an amazing savior, the man Christ Jesus!
